TASTING NOTE: Industrial Arts Brewing Company, Pilsner-style Lager "METRIC"

METRIC is a pilsner-style lager from Industrial Arts Brewing Company in Garnerville and Beacon, NY.

On the label, the beer is described as having “notes of crips & herbal tradition.” And while I’m not sure the “note” of “tradition” is really coming through on the pallet, that’s a fairly hard ask.

This is my first introduction to Industrial Arts, but the beer seems to fit right in with their style. Their line-up consists entirely of the fresh, hoppy style that has become so beloved in the last five (or so) years. But, let’s get into METRIC, shall we?

On the nose, we can already prove the color text correct. There are peppery and bitter fresh herbs jumping out of the glass. But, they’re escorted by a lemonade note and something even fruitier—strawberries?

Here’s where the fun really begins, however. On the first sip, everything you really want in a Pils came through—refreshing acidity, a hint of brioche-y sweetness, and cooling herbs. But the beer really took off from there. The finish is long. LONG. And while the finish of the first sip leaned a bit harsher toward bitterness than I prefer, the fresh lemon peel keeps you coming back.

This beer is traditional but above average. I would be thrilled to see it on a hot afternoon or after a long day. I certainly won’t be shying away from the other Industrial Arts offerings when I see them.

Cheers!
